Superintendent Dr. George McFarland is proud to announce the hiring of three new campus principals in Sweetwater ISD for the 2018-19 school year. Mr. Heath Wright will take the reins at Sweetwater Middle School, Mr. Jimmy Bennett will lead East Ridge Elementary, and Ms. Betsy Stanaland will open the new DAEP/AEP Sweetwater Campus as its first campus principal.
Heath Wright has served as a teacher of Social Studies, an Instructional Technology
Coordinator, a 21st Century Site Coordinator, an Extended Year Program Director, and currently serves as an Instructional Specialist in Abilene ISO. He is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin where he received his Bachelor's Degree, and also graduated from Lamar University where he received his Masters degree.
"Heath impressed our interview committee for the Middle School campus due to his passion for students, his care for campus morale, and his desire to grow teachers: said Dr. McFarland. "His desire to maximize student success, combined with his ability to build relationships with teachers excites me for the future of Sweetwater Middle School."
Mr. Wright stated “I am excited to accept a role in which I will be able to collaborate with the community in supporting students to reach their maximum potential. Growing up in a small community myself, I know the impact a tight knit community can make on the lives of our students. Sweetwater ISD, and Sweetwater Middle School in particular, are providing students a great educational experience. I look forward to using the skills I have acquired from life and professional experience to support the items that are being done well, while at the same time helping the campus grow in areas where improvement is needed. My wife and I look forward to joining and growing with the Sweetwater community.”
