Sweetwater to play Brownsboro on Friday in Aledo

Sweetwater will be playing football this Friday night after all, after having its game with Jim Ned cancelled Wednesday due to COVID-19.
And it will be a West Texas vs. East Texas matchup.
Ben McGehee, the Mustangs' head coach, has lined up a game at 7 p.m. Friday with Brownsboro โ€” which is a member of District 7-4A, Division II and is located 309 miles from Sweetwater. But the teams will meet at a neutral site as the game is at Bearcat Stadium in Aledo, which for most people is about a 2 1/2-hour drive from here โ€” about 175 miles โ€” and two hours from Brownsboro.
McGehee contacted Brownsboro coach and AD Greg Pearson, whose team had its game with Fairfield cancelled Wednesday to COVID-19 as well, and the two were able to set up a non-district contest at Aledo's stadium. Both teams are off to 0-1 starts after losing their season-opening games last week.
Sweetwater will be considered the home team for Friday's game. All fans at the stadium will be required to wear masks. Tickets are $5 each at the gate and there will be no presale tickets to the game.
A pep rally at Sweetwater High School on the front steps is at 7:30 p.m. today.
