Sweetwater paused yesterday to reflect on the memory of eighteen servicemen as an honor escort made a stop in Nolan County. The cortège was making its way from Amarillo en route to San Antonio for a burial ceremony at Fort Sam Houston Cemetery.
Escorted by the Patriot Guard Riders and various law enforcement officers, over 100 motorcycles exited I-20 and began to pull into Love’s. Waiting there to meet them were people of every background; young and old, veterans and non-veterans, active military, hospital workers, Texas Rangers, Sweetwater Fire Department personnel, Maryneal Fire Department and other first responders and various media outlets.
A solemn moment came when the white hearse exited the highway and pulled into the parking lot. No one spoke a word as the hearse parked and the driver got out and opened the back of the vehicle, revealing the 18 flag-draped cremains of servicemen who had died in duty to their country.
