Sweetwater hopes to begin getting on a roll as it enters stretch run

In order to make it back to the state playoffs, the Sweetwater football team must start winning and Friday’s game at Lamesa (0-6) is where the Mustangs must start having success.
In 2018, Sweetwater was defeated 49-30 at home by the Golden Tornadoes and never recovered as the team finished 1-9 and missed the playoffs. Coach Ben McGehee said that can’t happen again. “I think this week is a must win for us. If we lose it puts us in a bad spot,” the third-year coach said.
For 1-4 Sweetwater, the last five games will decide which direction the team goes and McGehee sees all five as winnable. The Mustangs face only one team in that span with a winning record when they entertain Fort Stockton (5-1, 1-1 district) here on Nov. 1.
