TxDOT contractors have closed BI-20 at UPRR in Sweetwater in preparation to replace the current bridge and approaches in that location. The new bridge will be wider and upgraded to current TxDOT standards.
Traffic will be detoured to Loop 170 and BUS 70 during construction. I-20 west- and eastbound exit ramps at BI-20 on the west end of Sweetwater will also be closed for the duration of the project.
The $4.8M project was awarded to Webber, Inc., of The Woodlands, Texas. Work is expected to be completed in December 2018.
As always, TxDOT reminds motorists to be especially watchful when traveling through roadway work zones, and to be mindful of workers and large, heavy equipment in the area.
