Sweetwater’s Annual National Night Out Is Coming

Sweetwater’s own annual National Night Out is coming in a few weeks. Our National Night Out will take place this year on October 2 from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. and will be located in the Higginbotham parking lot. As in years past, the event is free and family-friendly. It is an all ages event.
National Night Out is an community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. It is held throughout the United States. While usually taking place in August in most towns across the nation, it takes place during the first week in October in Texas and in Florida so as to avoid the usual scorching temperatures associated with the first week of August.
National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.
The concept for the event is to bring awareness regarding police programs in communities. Typically, these are things such as drug prevention, neighborhood watch and other anti-crime programs.
Law enforcement will be out in force, as there will be tables, booths, handouts and presentations by The Sweetwater Police Department, Sweetwater Fire Department, Sweetwater EMS, The Nolan County Sheriff’s Office, Roscoe Volunteer Fire Department, 9-1-1, TXDOT and TXDPS.
This will be a great opportunity to meet and greet Sweetwater’s first responders.
Civic groups will be there as well, such as local churches, local non-profits, area businesses, local schools, government offices and many more. Booth spaces are free.
For more information or if you would like to register a booth, please contact Officer Cory Stroman at the Sweetwater Police Department, (325)236-6686 or email him at cstroman@coswtr.org. Log on to the Sweetwater National Night Out Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com.
