SW, Roscoe lifters compete at Snyder to begin ‘18 season

Sweetwater boys and girls athletes and Roscoe’s boys competed at the Snyder powerlifting meet Thursday to start the year.
Chris Jackson won the outstanding lifter award and 123-pound class for the Sweetwater boys, who were seventh in their division, after lifting 920 pounds.
Also getting points for Sweetwater was Max Rodriguez, who placed fourth in the superheavyweight class after lifting a total of 1,150 pounds in the squat, bench press and dead lift.
For the Roscoe boys, Andrew Deleon (605) won the 114-pound class while Ezekiel Murphy was third after lifting 430 pounds. Francisco Garcia was fourth in the 181-pound division with a lift of 1,090 pounds.
The Sweetwater girls were fourth in their division with 20 points and had three second-place finishers. They were Cyera Pieper (510) in the 114-pound class; Jessica Serrano (535) in the 181-pound class; and Allison Torres (785) in the 259-pound-plus class.
Also getting points were Nikki Gutierrez (430) in the 123-pound class; Katherine Browning (420), fifth in the 123-pound class; and Sonora Medellin (515), fourth in the 132-pound class.
Snyder won the girls and boys divisions with 38 and 45 points, respectively. Roscoe scored 12 points and Sweetwater nine in the boys division. Roscoe competes again Saturday at Colorado City and Sweetwater goes to Abilene Cooper on Jan. 26.
