Stangs, Loboes vie for playoff berth

There will be a playoff-like atmosphere on Friday when Sweetwater makes the trip to Monahans to end the regular season at 7 p.m.
For Sweetwater, a victory will put the Mustangs back in the playoffs as a No. 3 or No. 4 seed from District 1-4A, Division II after missing out a year ago.
In addition, it would give the team its first two-game winning streak of the year entering the postseason.
The Mustangs (2-3 in 1-4A D-II) kept their fading hopes alive with a 35-21 win over Fort Stockton after tough back-to-back losses to Pecos and Snyder.
Sweetwater’s win not only salvaged its playoff chances but also means the three playoff berths left will come from five teams still in contention — Pecos (3-2), Snyder (3-2), Sweetwater (2-3), Fort Stockton (2-3) and Monahans (2-3). Only Lamesa (0-5) is out of contention. Greenwood (6-0) will be the No. 1 seed.
