SNAP to host Medicare open enrollment event Tuesday

Open enrollment for Medicare Part D began Oct. 15, 2015 and ends Dec. 7, 2015. Senior Nutrition Activities Program (SNAP) is hosting an open enrollment event on Tuesday, Nov. 3, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at their facility, located at 1701 Elm Street in Sweetwater. Certified benefits counselors from the Area Agency on Aging will be available to assist people in finding the best Part D plan for 2016.
The event is open to all citizens, not just SNAP clients.
To save time and prepare for comparisons, those attending the event are asked to bring five things including: 1. A list of prescriptions or bottles, 2. Name of the pharmacy used, 3. Medicare card for the Medicare number and effective dates, 4. Date of birth and 5. If comparing Medicare Advantage (MA) plans, the counselor will ask the person to contact their provider and ask the plans which the providers are "in network." Costs for out of network providers may be higher, so this is very important.
To talk with a certified benefits counselor about which medications to bring, call the Area Agency on Aging at 325-793-8417.
