Sweetwater High School’s softball and baseball teams host Big Spring in their final District 5-4A home games today.
The Lady Mustangs (4-3) are in second place but a loss in their 5-4A finale to first-place Big Spring (6-0) could drop them to a lower seed before the softball playoffs get started later this month.
The situation is more critical for the baseball team, which is 1-4 and tied for fourth place with Lake View after a 3-2 loss at Snyder in a 10-inning contest this past Friday. After today, Sweetwater plays its last two games on the road, starting at Lake View next Thursday. The season ends April 23 at Greenwood (4-1), which leads Big Spring by a half game in the 5-4A standings and hosts Snyder today.
Sweetwater is coming off a 7-2 softball loss to Snyder last Friday and the team also fell to Big Spring 13-10 in the teams’ first meeting.
Head coach Tim Scherwin is confident his team will bounce back. “We need to regroup, rest up and prepare for another battle,” he said after the 7-2 road loss to Snyder.
“We will respond. It’s just another opportunity to rebound.”
