Sweetwater High School is once again on the verge of qualifying its baseball and softball teams for the playoffs. The 3-3 Lady Mustangs can do it with a win at home over Snyder (1-5) at 5 p.m. today, assuring its sixth postseason trip since 2012.
In baseball, Sweetwater (3-2) gets a spot by beating Snyder (2-3) in their 7 p.m. game at Sportsman’s Park, but the Mustangs can also clinch today if Big Spring (0-5) loses at Brownwood (2-2) in their contest.
After starting 1-2, Sweetwater’s baseball team has shut out Brownwood 10-0 and beaten Big Spring 5-2 to move into second place in the District 5-4A standings.
The softball team, which has two games left in the regular season, is coming off a 6-4 loss at Big Spring this past Friday. The Lady Mustangs are 14-7-1 overall for first-year coach Alexandra Fuentez, including a 5-0 win at Snyder on March 23.
The baseball team, seeking its sixth straight playoff berth, will try to avenge a 9-3 loss at Snyder that also took place on March 23.
