SHS squads are back home today

Sweetwater High School’s basketball teams will play single games today at Mustang Gym after tournament action at separate locations this past weekend.
The SHS girls, who entertain Midland High at 6 p.m., were at Granbury’s three-day tournament where the Lady Mustangs went 1-3.
The SHS boys, who take on Clyde at 7:30 today, were at the Lamesa tournament where they also went 1-3 at the three-day event and on Thursday got their first win of the season with a 38-37 victory over Fort Stockton.
The Mustangs came up short on their last two days, losing 57-45 to Lamesa on Friday before completing the tournament on Saturday by losing to Wall 61-37 to drop their overall record to 1-6.
Tristan Morrow was the top scorer vs. Lamesa with 10 points. Daiman Atkins had nine and Darian Carr seven for the Mustangs.
In Saturday’s final game vs. Wall, Morrow again led the team with 12 points and Carr added 10.
The SHS girls (3-11 overall) lost to Granbury 59-38 to begin the tournament on Thursday, then lost their first game Friday to Aledo 55-34 before winning later in the day over Weatherford 37-34. Sweetwater ended the event with a 43-32 loss Saturday against Godley
Tavis Black was the top scorer for Sweetwater in its first three games as she had 11 points against Granbury, 19 against Aledo and 10 vs. Weatherford. Shavie Green was top scorer vs. Godley with 13 points. Mia Valdez had eight, Green seven and Amber Knox and Kyla Daniel six vs. Weatherford.
