SHS graduate named Nurse of the Year

Lubbock Heart Hospital announced that Kristen Martin, BSN, RN, Cardiac Critical Care Unit Charge Nurse, was named the 2012 Nurse of the Year.Kristen is a graduate of Sweetwater High School and she received her BSN degree from the Texas Tech School of Nursing in 2003. She started her nursing career at Lubbock Heart Hospital in 2006.“I am so honored to receive the LHH Nurse of the Year Award. I would like to thank my team members in CCCU and those who nominated me,” Kristen stated.Jeannie Bennett, Director of CCCU/ER, said, “Kristen is a wonderful person and has helped pull everyone together as a team in CCCU. She is a great nurse and very dedicated to all the patients she cares for. She is a very good leader.”From this group of honorees, one outstanding nurse is chosen as Nurse of the Year. The full list of this year’s honored nurses include Ricardo Marquez, CCCU; Teresa McIntire, CCCU; Barbara Herman, Coordinator Infection Prevention; Mary Amador, Short Stay; Brandi Booher, AC Charge Nurse; James Hitt, Surgery; Terry Purcell, AC; Kristen Martin, CCCU Charge Nurse; and Cynthia Valentini, Director of Quality and Education.As stated on her nomination form, “Kristen is always very helpful, professional and consistently pleasant to interact with. She is easy to get along with and has always shown a positive attitude. She is very knowledgeable and she always has the patients’ and hospital’s best interest at heart.
