SHS golf, tennis results

Sweetwater High School’s boys and girls golf teams began their spring seasons this past week at separate tournaments. The SHS boys went to Snyder for their event, while the girls were at San Angelo on Friday and Saturday.
The boys placed fourth at Snyder with a 713 two-day total and rounds of 363 Friday and 350 Saturday.
Wylie won with a 649 with Snyder (670) second and Levelland (705) third at the Sammy Baugh course.
Talon Raley was the top Sweetwater individual performer as he shot rounds of 83 and 82 for a 165 total to tie for fifth place.
Harlie Sanders (94-84-178), Chase Soles (92-91-183), Markus Meneses (94-93-187) and Collin Stafford (100-105-205) completed the Mustangs' team.
The Sweetwater girls shot rounds of 398 and 420 for an 818 total at San Angelo to place 12th out of 16 teams.
Playing for the girls were Alexis Heiskell, who shot 98 and 103 for a 201 total; Avery Allen, who shot 99-105-204; Miranda Sloan, 104-101-205; Katelyn Guzman, 97-111-208; Samantha Torres, 108-112-220; and Rachael Sparks, 116-113-229.
SHS tennis teams
opens at Big Spring
Sweetwater’s varsity and JV tennis teams opened the 2019 season at Big Spring.
For the SHS varsity team, Noah Gonzales and Nathan Humphries were boys doubles consolation champs with an 8-1 victory and the SHS mixed doubles team of Austin Ramirez and Riley Dodd also took consolation honors with an 8-4 win.
The SHS girls doubles team of Stephanie Gallardo and Allison Marlett placed fourth after losing their third-place match 9-7.
Jillian Virgen in girls singles reached her consolation final, losing 8-3, and Victoria Pena and Jacob Roden in mixed doubles also reached the consolation final, losing 8-4.
Samantha Magee and Kristina Rando won in JV girls doubles and Isaiah Pena reached his JV boys singles final, as did Madyson Gilmore-Mari Tovar (girls doubles) and James Beal- Michael Malone (boys doubles). Brody Frieda placed fourth in boys singles.
