SHS cheer, hoop camps set

A Mini Mustang Cheer Camp is set June 6-8 at Sweetwater High School’s new gym for girls ages four through fifth grade completion. Girls between 4 years of age and entering second grade next year have camp from 9-11:30 a.m. and girls who will be completing grades 2-5 will have camp from 1-3:30 p.m. each day. The cost of the camp is $40.
Campers will perform before the first SHS football home game on Sept. 7 and learn new cheers, jumps, chants, dance and stunts. A picture with the varsity cheerleaders will be taken on the first day of camp. A Lady Mustang Basketball Camp will be June 11-14 at the SHS new gym for girls entering K-eighth grade who want to be future Lady Mustangs. The camp will be held between 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. each day. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. for those who did not sign up early. Cost of the camp is $30. If payment and form is received by June 1 campers will receive a T-shirt. Individual player development, shooting, ball handling, defensive footwork, offensive principles and rebounding will be taught and there will be 3-point, hot shot and free throw contests. Sweetwater Mustang Basketball Camps are June 11-13 at the SHS gym for boys in grades 1-4 and grades 5-8.
The camp for grades 1-4 will be from 3:30-4:30 p.m. while the camp for grades 5-8 is from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Signups are allowed the first day of camp. The camp cost will be $25 including a T-shirt. Objectives are to introduce campers to fundamentals, motivate them to want to be a strong part of the basketball program, challenge them to set goals and to have fun competitions. A wave drill, mass fundamentals, one-on-one skills, shooting, dribbling, full court drills, competitions and league games are planned. Return forms to Coach Ben McGehee at the high school office.
