Friday was a good night for most Nolan County teams on the basketball court, as the Roscoe and Highland boys and both Blackwell teams won. The Roscoe and Blackwell girls have already wrapped up playoff spots and Highland’s boys are closing in after knocking off Ira. The Blackwell girls can win the 11-1A title by defeating Veribest when they end the regular season Tuesday after a 46-25 home win on Friday over Bronte. The boys also won, 57-38, over Bronte and go into Tuesday’s game vs. Veribest in contention as well.
District 8-2A
Despite losing to No. 4 Haskell 39-31, Roscoe’s girls (3-6) clinched the No. 4 seed after Cross Plains and Hawley also lost Friday. Roscoe’s boys, meanwhile, are 2-5 after their 60-33 win at Haskell. Roscoe girls coach Shella Arnwine said the Plowgirls face Christoval in the bi-district playoffs Feb. 11 at Bronte at 6:30 p.m. The Plowgirls, who were down 26-5 at halftime, got within four points the last minute before Haskell pulled out the win.
