Services set for Sturdivant

A memorial service for Lonnie O'dell Sturdivant, age 59, of Maryneal, who was shot and killed Saturday, have been set for 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016 at First Baptist Church in Maryneal with Reverend Truman Davis officiating. Graveside memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016 at Cavness Cemetery at Mason, Texas. McCoy Funeral Home in Sweetwater is in charge of arrangements.
On Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016, Lance Light, 54, shot Sturdivant and fled the scene in a vehicle. A DPS unit located the subject south of Sweetwater where the subject fled apprehension. The pursuit ended at the intersection of IH-20 and TX 70. During the arrest the subject was shot by an officer with the Sweetwater Police Department when Light produced a gun and pointed it at officers. The officer is on paid administrative leave.
Light is in critical condition at a local hospital. Texas Rangers, Sweetwater Police Department and the Nolan County Sheriff's Office are working together in this ongoing investigation.
Sturdivant leaves behind his wife, Connie Brooks Sturdivant of Maryneal; sons, Seth Blackwell Sturdivant of Maryneal, Michael Brandon Moore of Lometa and Eric Wade Moore of Richland Springs; sister, Shirley Wilkins of New Braunfels; his granddaughter, Heidi Abigail Sturdivant of Abilene; and eight step grandchildren.
