Roscoe girls win but Blackwell, Sweetwater lose opening BB games

Roscoe beat Robert Lee 36-27 to open its girls basketball season this weekend but Sweetwater and Blackwell both lost.
In a Class 2A contest played Saturday at Roscoe, the Plowgirls used a 16-5 run in the third quarter to overcome an 18-12 deficit at halftime en route to their victory.
Roscoe got a team-high 11 points from Carson Greenwood while Sadie McCambridge had seven points, Riley Sheridan and Layla Herrera six, Shauna McCambridge four and Kaylea Perez two.
The Plowgirls led 7-4 after one quarter but trailed Robert Lee by six at halftime until their strong finish.
In a top-20 Class 1A girls battle Friday, No. 19 Eula beat No. 9 Blackwell 37-23 at Eula, while holding leads of 13-6, 17-10 and 32-16 at the quarter breaks.
Blackwell was led by Madison Solis with eight points while Darrian Kenney had six, Tori Campos four, Emilee Sanderson and Jadyn Feitshans two and Caitlin Lange one for the Lady Hornets.
Sweetwater’s girls lost 59-14 at home to Cisco in their opener Saturday for Kasey Teich, their new head coach. Kyla Daniel led Sweetwater with seven points. The Lady Mustangs return only two players from last year’s team. “It wasn’t the outcome we wanted. but we made a lot of mental mistakes,” Teich said. “Our biggest takeaway is doing the little things and being confident in our abilities. My girls never stopped fighting.”
