After being held to 24 total yards and no points by a good Gruver team to end non-district play, Roscoe’s Plowboys hope for a fresh start as they open District 7-2A, Division II play by hosting Hamlin tonight.
Highland’s Hornets, on the other hand, take a four-game winning streak into their District 8-1A, Division I opener at Westbrook. The Hornets have overwhelmed foes 219-20 while posting two shutouts and allowing another team just one score during their win streak.
Blackwell won’t start district play until Oct. 26, but the Hornets play tonight as they entertain Santa Anna to end non-district action.
Roscoe (2-3), which had a two-game win streak before facing Gruver, now faces a Hamlin team that was 5-0 in non-district play.
Highland (5-1) will be heavily favored to beat 2-4 Westbrook, but will face tougher odds after getting an open date next week. The Hornets will play Sterling City (6-0) and Garden City (6-0) — both top-5 teams in the sixmanfootball.com poll — when they resume district play before facing Water Valley Nov. 9 to end the regular season.
Blackwell (6-0), the No. 4 team in Class 1A, D-II, plays Moran in its district opener.
