Strong Powerball® ticket sales have propelled the estimated annuitized jackpot from $450 million to $500 million for tonight’s drawing. The jackpot’s estimated cash value is now $306 million.
“This is the sixth largest jackpot of any U.S. lottery game on record and the fourth largest Powerball jackpot. Tonight’s jackpot started at $40 million on Nov. 7, 2015, and is the result of 17 drawings with no jackpot winner,” said Gary Grief, executive director of the Texas Lottery and chair of the Powerball game group.
Texas has had two Powerball jackpot winners since joining the multistate Powerball game in 2010. Last year, TL Management Trust, Andrew Weber, Trustee of Austin claimed the $127,046,150.05 cash value of their share of the $564.1 million jackpot from the drawing held Feb. 11, 2015. In 2013, Paul McDowell of Ravenna claimed the $29,906,600.00 cash value prize from the $40 million jackpot from the May 29, 2013 drawing.
The jackpot is not the only way to win big. Texas has had 15 second-tier Powerball winners of $1 million or $2 million since January 2015.
