None of the four Nolan County high school boys teams has claimed a playoff berth entering today’s final games of the regular season.
But while Sweetwater and Blackwell won’t be joining the postseason party, Roscoe and Highland can both extend their seasons in District 8-2A and 13-1A, respectively.
The No. 4 — and last —berth from 8-2A will come down to today’s Roscoe vs. Hawley game in Roscoe. Both teams are 3-6 in District 8-2A. Roscoe won the first meeting 55-52 in overtime at Hawley on Jan. 25.
In 13-1A, Highland (4-3) is in second place and will clinch the No. 2 spot with a win over Westbrook (3-4) today. A loss would require a play-in tiebreaker also involving Ira and would start Thursday, according to Highland boys coach Shea Baucom.
In 5-4A, Sweetwater (0-7) ends its year at Greenwood as the Mustangs try to avoid a winless district campaign. Snyder (8-0), Greenwood (5-2), Lake View (3-4) and Big Spring (2-5) have clinched the four playoff berths but a tiebreaker to decide the No. 3 and No. 4 teams will be necessary if Big Spring defeats Lake View tonight.
