Mustangs begin final stretch at Ft Stockton

Sweetwater returns to district play, following a week off, on Friday to kick off the final four-week stretch of its season by making its longest road trip of the year.
But the 210-mile trip to Fort Stockton for the teams’ 7 p.m. kickoff won’t be that much longer than earlier road trips to Pecos (202 miles) in Week 5 and Wichita Falls (169) for the opener. And several members of the No. 9-ranked Mustangs are used to long trips after deep playoff runs in recent years.
Fort Stockton is 1-2 in district (3-4 overall), while Sweetwater is 2-0, 6-0. Mustang head coach Ben McGehee said his players can’t afford to look ahead to next week’s showdown with Seminole, which is 3-0 after crushing Pecos 57-6 this past Friday.
