Mustangs are at home today

Sweetwater hosts Greenwood in boys basketball action today after going 0-3 at a tournament in Lamesa.
Sweetwater (0-5) will have its full team for the 7:30 p.m. contest with the addition of several athletes from the football squad that had its season end this past Friday. Like the football team, the Mustang basketball team has a first-year head coach in Bryan Loera who was hired to replace Chris Carruthers, now at Sealy.
This past Thursday, the Mustangs began the Lamesa tournament by losing to Lubbock High 65-38.
J.L. Solis scored 13 points to pace the Mustangs while Jayden Hernandez tossed in eight for Sweetwater. On Friday, Sweetwater played Lamesa, losing to the tournament hosts 77-42. Hernandez scored 11 and Solis had nine points. The tournament ended with the team losing to New Deal by a score of 55-42 on Saturday. Solis scored 19 and Morrow 11 to lead the team’s effort, while Morrow and Logan Wedin had eight points apiece.
The Sweetwater girls are idle until they go to Ira for a 6:30 p.m. game this Friday. The team is 2-12 overall after getting its first two wins at Granbury’s tournament.
Sweetwater lost its first pool game 52-27 to Coppell but then rebounded to defeat Stephenville 58-55 on Thursday. After losing Friday to Weatherford 55-38, the team ended the tournament on Saturday with a 51-43 victory against Fossil Ridge.
Tavis Black and Jessica Poe had nine points vs. Coppell. Black had 19 points, Poe 13 and Rashavia Green and Amber Knox 10 vs. Stephenville, and Green had 17 boards and Poe eight. Black had 18 and Poe 15 vs. Weatherford and Green had 16 points and Black 13 vs. Fossil Ridge. Green also had 17 rebounds vs. Fossil Ridge.
