MIDLAND — Sweetwater shot the second best round Monday but finished third at the District 5-4A boys golf tournament to settle for a regional alternate berth.
Talon Raley and Harlie Sanders will play, however, as medalists at the Region 1-4A golf tournament held at Lubbock’s Shadow Hills Course on April 24-25.
The two golfers finished in sixth and eighth place but were the top two individual players not on a qualifying team. Big Spring (352-1,030) and Snyder (365-1,060) qualified for the two team berths to regionals.
Sweetwater shot 360, the second best round of the day, to finish third at 1,109.
Raley shot 89 for a 260 total and Sanders shot 87 for a 272 total for his three rounds of play.
Markus Meneses (87-280), Chase Soles (97-297) and Collin Stafford (98-309) were the other three Sweetwater players. Meneses placed ninth to earn all-district honors along with Raley and Sanders.
Danner Foust (84-296), Devon Ford (103-298), Mason Wyrosdick (96-306) and Christian Molina (120-351) played for Sweetwater’s No. 2 team that was sixth after shooting 403 to finish with a 1,251 total.
