A playoff warmup game scheduled Tuesday vs. Midland Greenwood lasted a mere 14 minutes for the Sweetwater softball team at the Jerry Collins Complex, before the threat of lightning halted the action with the teams in a 0-0 tie in the top of the second inning.
After about a 30-minute wait, the game was eventually cancelled by the threat of more weather.
The Lady Mustangs will begin the bi-district playoffs later this week anyway.
They face Graham starting Thursday in a best-of-3 series, with all the games played at Hawley High School. The first game begins at 5 p.m. Thursday; Game 2 is 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Game 3, if needed, will be played at a yet-to-be-announced time Saturday. The time will be determined by how two of Sweetwater's starting infielders — shortstop Tavis Black and second baseman Bri Moriel — do while competing Friday afternoon at the Region I-4A track meet in Lubbock. Their performances will decide if they have to return for Saturday's finals.
Sweetwater was the No. 4 team in District 5-4A this season and is 15-8-1 overall entering the playoffs, while Graham was the No. 1 team out of District 6-4A.
