With her team trailing 12-8 in Game 3, Sweetwater coach Mitzi Bell called a timeout against Big Spring to remind her team of what had happened just minutes earlier at Mustang Gym.
“I said, ‘You’ve got to remember what you did when you won the second game. You’ve got to bring it from that side of the court to this side,” said Bell, whose team had evened up the match with a 25-21 victory after losing by a score of 25-22 to begin the District 5-4A match. The Game 3 woes ended when Tuesday’s match resumed.
The Lady Mustangs collected two kills and an ace as they overtook the Lady Steers with a 5-0 run, en route to taking a 2-1 lead with a 17-4 run the rest of the game led by Elli Lehnert. Sweetwater used that momentum to close out a 3-1 win with a 25-17 victory in the fourth game.
With the win, Sweetwater is 2-2 in the District 5-4A volleyball race; Big Spring is now 1-2.
