IRAAN — The stage is set for Blackwell and Veribest to play a third time. This time, the two girls teams are in a neutral setting. They meet Monday at 6:30 p.m. in a Region II-1A basketball regional quarterfinal playoff at Angelo State University.
Friday’s 52-17 Blackwell win over Marfa puts the Lady Hornets in the third round of the playoffs for the second straight year.
Another Blackwell win would advance them to the regional tournament for the first time in 26 years.
Blackwell, which lost 51-48 to Veribest Feb. 5 in a District 11-1A showdown for the championship to end the regular season, is 23-8 after winning its first two playoff games by an average of 43 points. The Lady Hornets beat Rochelle 70-19 before taking on Marfa on Friday night.
However, Blackwell is 0-2 against Veribest, which was 10-2 in winning the 11-1A title to Blackwell’s 9-3.
Veribest won the teams’ first game 56-51 on Jan. 11 at Blackwell as well as the second game at Veribest.
