Lady Hornets pick up 2nd title with runaway win at Robert Lee meet

The Blackwell girls track team traveled to Robert Lee for a one-day meet Friday and rolled up 144 points for a second straight team title.
No other team made it to triple digits. Garden City (87) was second and Forsan third with 70.
Blackwell won just three events, but was runnerup eight times and third three times. The Lady Hornets picked up victories in the 800 relay and 1600 relay as well as the long jump.
Cirstyn Gober, Madison Solis, Vickie Davis and Kiley Cummings were the team’s runners on the mile relay (4:22.22) and Carli Powers joined Gober, Solis and Davis on the 800 relay that hit the tape in 1:54.18.
In addition, Caitlin Lange won the long jump (15-10) while Cummings (15-4) was second.
The 400 relay, which was made up of Jordan Jones, Solis, Powers and Darrian Kenney, was second (54.45).
In addition, Cummings was second in the 400 dash (1:02.40) and triple jump (35-4) and third in the 200 dash (27.68); Davis was second in the 800 (2:30.63); Gober was second in the 300 hurdles (53.56); Kenney was second in the 100 hurdles (16.98) and fifth in the 300 hurdles (55.00); and Jones was second in the pole vault (8-6) though she tied with Peighton Glass of Sterling City for the best height. Kenney was third in the high jump (4-10) and triple jump (31-5 1/4) while Lange was sixth in both the 100 hurdles (18.78) and 300 hurdles (56.09).
Peyton Hinckley picked up a second-place finish for the Blackwell boys in the high jump, clearing 5-10. Junior Guia placed third in the shot put (40-6 1/2) and fourth in the discus (115-8) while Devan Clower was fifth in the 800 (2:14.15) and Anthony Marshall was sixth in the pole vault (10-6) to account for the rest of the team’s 21 points.
