Eleven of Sweetwater High School’s softball players have been given all-District 5-4A recognition for their outstanding play during the 2018 season.
Shortstop Tavis Black, a junior, is the district’s defensive MVP. Named to the first team as outfielders were senior Sonora Medellin and sophomore Blake Bewley, and junior Bri Moriel also made the first team as an infelder.
Junior pitcher Kara Lehnert and freshman infielder Jazzy Villa made the second team, while junior first baseman Hannah Mobley, junior catcher Emerald Torres, senior outfielder Sadie Fish, junior utility player Shavie Green and sophomore pitcher Elli Lehnert earned honorable mention.
Sweetwater finished the 2018 season with an overall 16-10 record under first-year coach Alex Fuentez and made the playoffs as the No. 4 district seed. The Lady Mustangs finished just one game behind district co-leaders Big Spring, Brownwood and Wylie, all 5-3 in district play.
Sweetwater faced Graham in bi-district for the second straight year and went three games with the Lady Blues in a very competitive playoff series before losing. The Lady Mustangs advanced to postseason play for the sixth time in seven years.
