Hornets clinch spot in playoffs without playing

Blackwell’s football team has assured itself of getting to make a return trip to the playoffs this month, and did it without playing a game.
The Hornets won a 1-0 forfeit Friday for its second win in district, over a Trent team that made a decision a number of weeks ago to cancel the rest of its Class 1A DII schedule.
Blackwell (9-0) needs a win in its season finale on Thursday over Loraine — 2-7 overall but also 2-0 in district — to earn the No. 1 seed and a second consecutive district title, before it starts the playoffs. Loraine, despite its sub-par overall record, would receive the No. 1 seed and Blackwell falls to No. 2, if Loraine wins on Thursday. Blackwell has not lost a regular season game in two years, though, and is No. 3-ranked in 1A, DII.
