Thanksgiving is celebrated all around the United States by families, friends, co-workers, and even employees. Despite the differences of race, religion, gender, and political beliefs, each unique individual knows one fact about Thanksgiving. That fact might be the complete historical origin of Thanksgiving between the benevolent Native Americans and the grateful Pilgrims or it might be the fact that families get together and eat food sometime in November. Thanksgiving means something different for everyone, celebrated or not, so with that in mind, what does Thanksgiving mean to the Sweetwater Reporter?
After some thought and debate, we at the Sweetwater Reporter, have concluded that Thanksgiving is a time of appreciation and thankfulness. The Sweetwater Reporter newspaper is a written form of media that is for the community and from the people that make it. This concept influenced our decision to show our gratitude to the community by creating a Holiday Donation Campaign. We took the time to reach out to businesses in the Sweetwater area to help us donate to families in need, during the Holiday Season. We were fortunate enough to sell 9 Thanksgiving Baskets from the following companies: Brookshires (1), Big Country Electric (1), Buzzi Unicem USA (1), Lawrence Hall of Abilene (2), Sweetwater Inn (1), Sweetwater Heath Center (1), Sweetwater Real Estate (1), and the Sweetwater Lions Club (1), (in the November 28th Thanksgiving edition).
