Highland Robotics team to compete at state this weekend

The Highland Robotics team advanced to the state competition after winning third place in Lubbock at the district competition in October where they competed against Class 1A through 4A schools. They will be participating in the state competition at the Comerica Center in Frisco, TX, Thursday through Sunday.
Highland robotics and science teacher, Whitney Ashford, explained that the challenge for this year’s robotics competition is to create a robot that can set up power lines and remove debris after a natural disaster. “We are limited on the type and amount of materials we can use to make it,” she said.
They call themselves Hilltop Grid. Austin Moreland, a senior, is the president of the team. He makes sure all the members are doing their part and understand the fundamentals of their jobs. Senior Sam Spaulding is Vice President. Dustin Gray, also a senior, serves as the construction manager. All freshmen, Grayson Eaker serves as the treasurer, Jackie Hansen as the secretary, Hailey Balthrop as assistant secretary, and Jimmy Merket as director of programming.
