Highland missed out on the Class 1A, Division I playoffs despite a 7-3 record a year ago. Then the Hornets graduated five key players who helped Highland win 22 games the last three seasons.
But the cupboard isn’t bare, and coach Kyle Jeffrey thinks his team can survive those losses in a district that includes top-5 teams Sterling City and Garden City, in addition to Water Valley and Westbrook.
“We’ve got a lot to replace so we’ll be a different team,” Jeffrey said.
“If we can jell as a unit and get the pieces in place consistently, we’ll be a good group. They’ve been busting their tails in practice.
“We’ve had great effort and non-stop hustle. I think it will pay off in the long run for us, but we can’t afford any injuries.”
