Highland boys and Blackwell girls win big

The Highland boys and the Blackwell girls Tuesday posted lopsided victories in area high school basketball action, while the Roscoe boys opened their season with a loss. Also, the Roscoe girls lost to Jayton’s state-ranked girls team Tuesday.
Blackwell’s girls, ranked No. 24 in Class 1A by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches, improved to 7-3 with a 62-5 win against Midland Trinity.
Jadyn Feitshans tossed in 12 points and Emilee Sanderson, Carli Powers and Madison Solis 10. Also scoring were Cirstyn Gober and Kiley Cummings with eight and Darrian Kenney with four for the Lady Hornets.
Highland’s boys improved to 4-0 with an 89-8 win at Paint Creek. Jordan Johns led the Hornets by scoring 19 points and Eli Sauer had 15. Richard Fomby and Nolan Montgomery scored 12 and Dakota Bowen 11, while Jacob Hamilton had seven, Sam Spaulding five and Ethan Peacock and Konner Turney four. No information on Highland’s girls game was available at press time.
Roscoe’s boys began their season with a 40-32 loss to Spur. Jose Ortega was the top scorer for the Plowboys with 10 points. Caleb Gray had seven, Hunter Anglin six, Junior Martinez four, Jayden Gonzales three and Brandon Lavalais two.
Roscoe’s JV boys also lost to Spur, 36-30.
The Roscoe girls (3-2) fell to Jayton, 46-32, in their game. Bonnie Wilkinson scored 12 points while Jovana Pena had seven, Shauna McCambridge six, Victoria Martinez five and Sadie McCambridge two.
