LUBBOCK — For most of the first half, Sweetwater gave a No. 5-ranked and undefeated Lubbock Estacado team all it could handle. It was a 14-14 game and Sweetwater had a chance to score the go-ahead touchdown with 5:27 left in the half after Joe Angel Reyna intercepted a pass to end a Matador possession.
But then everything changed. Sweetwater failed to score and with 18 seconds left, Estacado did to take a 20-14 lead. It was all downhill from there. Sweetwater gave up 33 more points as Estacado (11-0) pulled away for a 53-20 victory to end the Mustangs’ season.
