City Council Approves Vehicle Purchases, Recognizes Citizens Police Academy Participants

The City Council of the City of Sweetwater, Texas, met in regular session on Tuesday, November 12, 2019, at 9 a.m. in the City Council Room of the City Hall, 200 E. 4th Street, Sweetwater.
Police Chief Frieda spoke about the first Sweetwater Citizens Police Academy. Those present from the Academy were allowed to speak about their personal experiences with the program. The City Council then recognized participants of the first Sweetwater Citizens Police Academy. Crime stats, organization, use of force, search and seizure prosecutorial discretion issues, dispatch and how quick situations can turn. Sweetwater Police hopes to have two of these academies a year for citizens. The next one will likely be in the spring.
The Public Comments and Receipt of Petitions portion of the meeting was opened at this time.: [At this time, anyone will be allowed to speak on any matter, other than personnel matters or matters under litigation, for the length of time not to exceed three minutes. No Council/Board discussion or action may take place on a matter until such matter has been placed on an agenda and posted in accordance with law - GC, 551.042.} no one came forward.
