City Council Approves Resolutions; Ordinances; Water Tower Update Given

The City Council of the City of Sweetwater met in regular session on Tuesday, July 9 at 9 a.m. in the City Council Chambers of the City Hall, 200 E. 4th Street, Sweetwater.
There was a call to order by Mayor Jim McKenzie and an Invocation by Reverend Jered Houze of St. Stephens Episcopal Church.
“Let us pray. Almighty God, our Heavenly Father. Send down upon those who hold office in this city the spirit of wisdom, charity and justice and have a steadfast purpose that may faithfully serve their offices to promote the well-being of all people. Teach our people to rely on your strength and to accept their responsibilities to their fellow citizens and that they may elect trustworthy leaders and make wise decisions for the well-being of our society. That we may serve you faithfully in our generation and honor your holy name. For yours is the kingdom, O, Lord, you are exalted, head above all.”.
With a brief discussion, the City Council approved the Quarterly Investment Report for the quarter ended June 30, 2019.
In a similar manner, the City Council approved entering into an agreement with Tommy Morris Agency to represent City as Broker of Record and to evaluate competitive sealed proposals.
The City Council approved the authorization of staff to receive competitive sealed proposals on Self Insured Group Health, Dental, Life Insurance Benefit to be considered at August 13, 2019, meeting.
Next up was a Resolution. Jay Hardaway spoke a few months prior to this meeting and addressed the importance of the Hazard mitigation Plan. This has been formally adopted by Nolan County and is a five year requirement. The City Council has approved the Resolution regarding the West Central Texas Council of Governments Hazard Mitigation Plan Update and this resolution was read into the record.
The City Council adopted and approved the Resolution authorizing the City Manager to undertake efforts to support the U.S. Census 2020 and has read this into the record.
The Ordinance regarding approving a temporarily increase of the number of positions in the Sweetwater Fire Department by one Firefighter/EMT.
