City Council Approves Mayoral, Council Member Election Process; Appointments to Boards; City to Pursue Seal Coat Project Bids for Summer 2019

The City Council of the City of Sweetwater met in regular session on Tuesday, February 12, 2019, at 9 a.m. in the City Council Chambers of the City Hall, 200 E. 4th Street, Sweetwater.
During an informative meeting with a packed agenda and a full room, many items were considered and thus, approved.
The City Council to approved an Ordinance ordering an election of the qualified voters of the City of Sweetwater to be held on May 4, 2019, for the purpose of electing a Mayor and two City Council members (Precincts 1 and 3) of said City.
The Council to heard a presentation on the fiscal year approved the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (Audit) for the fiscal year ended September 30, 2018.
The Council discussed, considered and acted upon authorizing staff to pursue bids on AC 10 and Grade 4 crushed rock for a potential streets seal coat project in Summer 2019. This project was approved and it is anticipated that the project will involve one hundred city blocks and 30,000 gallons and just shy of 100,000 square yards of seal coat. Council member May commented that it was a good project and that the City should be allowed to go out for bids. There was a second and the measure was approved.
The Council approved the reappointment of Mr. Larry Ludlum as City appointee to the Sweetwater - Nolan County Municipal Auditorium Board of Directors.
Chief Brian Frieda of the Sweetwater Police Department spoke on their Annual Report. The annual report is required by law. Audits are now included and everything came back clean and compliant. There were no incidences of racial profiling.
