BRONTE — Roscoe’s girls in the second quarter held Christoval scoreless and trailed just 10-9 at intermission.
But Christoval — the No. 1 seed out of District 7-2A — used a 15-6 third quarter run to pull away from Roscoe en route to a 35-23 win in the teams’ Class 2A bi-district playoff on Monday night.
With the win, the Lady Cougars will advance to the area round to take on Smyer, while Roscoe — a No. 4 playoff seed in its first postseason trip since 2014 — finishes 17-12.
Christoval led Roscoe 10-6 after the first quarter before its drought in the second quarter when just three points were scored.
But Christoval (23-10) took control after halftime with its 15-6 run.
Bonnie Wilkinson paced Roscoe — and all scorers — with 14 points, but only three teammates also scored as Victoria Martinez had four points, Sadie McCambridge three and Veronica Cuellar two. Wilkinson and Cuellar will be lost to graduation along with Jovana Pena, Liberty Saenz and Kadee Martinez.
