Blackwell stings ‘Cats

BLACKWELL — Division II Blackwell is again more than holding its own against Division 1 foes. The Hornets made it three straight by defeating Newcastle’s Bobcats on Friday by a score of 77-38.
And since the start of 2017, Blackwell (3-0) has won 23 straight regular season games against all opponents. Newcastle, now 0-3, barely avoided being closed out by six-man’s 45-point mercy rule, but still was unable to keep pace.
Blackwell held leads of 16-6, 38-18 and 53-30 at the period breaks and Newcastle never led in the contest, though it was a close game most of the first half.
But the Hornets, ranked 6th and 8th in Division II statewide polls, gradually wore down the Bobcats by scoring at least two touchdowns in all four quarters.
