Blackwell looks for more success, longer playoff run

The last time Blackwell lost a regular season football game was in 2016.
But second-round exits from the playoffs two years in a row have the Hornets eager to prove themselves even more and justify their No. 9 Class 1A, D-II ranking from Texas Football.
“That’s our goal — to go further than we did (last year),” head coach Clint Lowry said.
Blackwell lost in 2017 to an eventual state finalist (Balmorhea) and in 2018 to a Jayton team that made it to the state semifinals.
That left a bad taste in the mouths of the returning players, despite finishing with 11-1 records both years to equal the most season wins by Blackwell teams in school history.
There appears to be enough firepower to get Blackwell to the third round of the playoffs, something it hasn’t done in 23 years.
