Blackwell girls win title at W-Valley meet

WATER VALLEY — The Blackwell girls captured first place with 124 team points this past Friday at Water Valley’s track meet as they won by a 14-point margin over the host school.
Individual event winners were Kiley Cummings (400 dash), Vickie Davis (800 run), Jordan Jones (pole vault) and Darrian Kenney (100 hurdles).
Cummings, Davis, Cirstyn Gober and Madison Solis were Blackwell’s runners on its first-place 400 relay, which had a winning time of 4:22.96 to finish more than eight seconds ahead of its closest competition.
Cummings was timed at 1:02.79 in the 400 dash and Davis ran the 800 in a winning time of 2:36.03. Jones cleared 8-6 in the pole vault and Kenney ran the 100 hurdles in 18.11 seconds.
Highland’s girls also had a first-place winner Friday in Maggie Bowen, who won the 3,200-meter run with a time of 15:07.17.
Blackwell’s 800 relay of Gober, Davis, Solis and Carli Powers earned a second-place finish (1:56.59), as did Cummings in the 200 (27.83), Gober in the 300 hurdles (54.59) and Kenney in the triple jump (32-3 1/2). Lange was third in the 300 hurdles (54.87) and the long jump (14-10 3/4).
Kenney was the top Blackwell individual with 24 points after placing in a total of four events, while Cummings with a close second with 23 points and Davis had 19.
Highland’s Zoe Cornett placed third in the 800 run (2:40.99) and fourth in the 400 (1:09.89).
Blackwell’s boys finished fifth in their division with 47 points. Devan Clower was first in the 800 run with a time of 2:10.98 and second in the 400 (55.96) and Peyton Hinckley placed second in the high jump (6-0) while Junior Guia was third in the shot put (41-0 1/2) and Jonathan Schroeder was fourth in the long jump (17-10).
