MERKEL — Blackwell is moving on to the second round of the Class 1A playoffs after the Lady Hornets defeated Aspermont by a score of 64-45 on Tuesday in their bi-district playoff.
Blackwell — which now has a season record of 19-11 — led just 18-17 at the end of the opening period, but a 22-11 second period made it 40-28 at halftime en route to the victory. Four Lady Hornets made it into double figures, led by Kiley Cummings and Emilee Sanderson with 15 points apiece. Madison Solis had 13 and Vickie Davis 10 for Blackwell.
The team will meet Eden in the area playoffs at 8 p.m. Friday at Angelo State University's Junell Center.
