SANTA ANNA — The Blackwell Hornets finished the non-district portion of their schedule the same way they began — with a lopsided shutout win on the road.
Blackwell is now 7-0 after a 52-0 mercy rule win at Santa Anna — its third shutout of the season. The Hornets scored 26 points in the first quarter and 26 more in the second before retiring for the night, thanks to the 45-point rule utilized in six-man football.
It marked the team’s last tuneup for District 7-1A, D-II play that is scheduled to begin Oct. 27 after a bye week.
Cameron Coldiron (115 yards rushing) began the scoring for Blackwell on Friday with a 16-yard run. Both he and quarterback Brandon Brinkman (87 yards) ran for two touchdowns, and Brinkman also threw for one and caught a pass for another.
Coldiron also scored on a 25-yard run, and Brinkman had TD runs of 33 and 6 yards. He also threw a 21-yard TD pass to Hunter Clark and caught a 6-yard scoring pass from Michael Lowry.
Clark also had a 35-yard TD rush. Blackwell’s other TD was a Nathaniel Shipman INT return. Clark had two catches for 49 yards.
Joe Sanchez also had an interception. Cade McKee forced a fumble that was recovered by Hunter Perry. Sanchez had seven tackles, Shipman four, Devin Clower, Lowry and McKee three, Coldiron and Junior Guia two and Brinkman one. Guia kicked two PATs.
