The two Nolan County Class 1A football teams are 9-1 overall after winning Friday.
Highland 64, Robert Lee 22
ROBERT LEE — Highland’s two-week shutout string was halted but Robert Lee still couldn’t stay with the Hornets.
Highland (4-1) had a 30-8 lead after the first period and just missed closing out the game by the 45-point mercy rule for the fourth time in five games.
Jacob Hamilton had a huge game as the Highland running back finished Friday’s contest with six touchdowns and 269 yards on 21 carries. Sam Spaulding was 7-of-10 passing for 35 yards including a 4-yard TD toss to Dylan Jeffrey. Also scoring TDs for Highland were Ryan Garrett on a 26-yard run and Nate Bennett on a fumble return.
Ruger Duniven kicked five PATs for the Hornets, who finished with 389 yards.
Max Ferguson had two catches and Chase Crosson, Hamilton, Jeffrey, Bennett and Kreed Turney one. Turney also rushed two times for 45 yards in the game and Garrett and Spaulding (1 for 14) also had positive yardage running the ball.
Highland’s tackling leaders on defense included Hamilton with eight solo stops and two assisted tackles; Ferguson with five solos, five assists and two tackles for a loss with a sack; Ryan Garrett (five solos, one assist, three tackles for a loss); Spaulding (five solos, one assist); Seth Garrett (four tackles, one for a loss); and Crosson (four tackles, one assist, one tackle for a loss).
Highland hosts Irion County this week.
Blackwell 46, Hermleigh 0
BLACKWELL — Blackwell (5-0) got its first shutout by blanking Hermleigh in the first two quarters before the game ended at halftime due to the 45-point rule.
Michael Lowry (4-of-5 passing, 85 yards) threw three TD passes — a 19-yarder to Devan Clower, a 9-yarder to Caleb Sirmons and a 35-yarder to Cameron Coldiron. In addition, he had a 33-yard TD run.
Blackwell also received scoring runs from Coldiron (10 yards) and Clower (11 yards) and scored on a second-quarter safety. Mickey Toasaksiri kicked four PATs.
Defensive leaders for Blackwell included Sam Brinkman with seven tackles; Coldiron and Nathaniel Shipman with six tackles; and Lowry, Zach Panzer and Brenden Scott with three tackles.
Blackwell goes to Veribest this Friday.
