‘Stangs get their first win

LAMESA — Sweetwater’s Jaden Hernandez got a putback with 30 seconds left Thursday as the Mustangs won 38-37 over Fort Stockton at Lamesa’s O.W. Follis tournament, their first win of the year.
Down 28-18 at halftime and 34-28 at the end of three periods, Sweetwater won the fourth quarter 10-3 to improve to 1-4 for the season.
Jackson Foster was the top scorer for the Mustangs with 13 points.
Logan Wedin had six, Elijah Reyes five, Darian Carr and Hernandez four, and Daiman Atkins, Tony Padilla and Jonathan Gallegos two.
Sweetwater lost its first tournament game, falling to Abernathy 34-30 earlier Thursday. Wedin had nine points and Tristan Morrow, Reyes and Padilla four, while Jon Davis had three and Alex Gallegos, Foster and Carr two. Sweetwater plays Lamesa at 8 p.m. today.
