The Destination Imagination team from Sweetwater Intermediate School — as winners at the Northwest Plains DI competition — will join approximately 300 Texas Destination Imagination regional winners at the affiliate tournament.
Texas DI is a school-based program devoted to helping students gain practical life skills through interesting, entertaining and mind-boggling challenges. The program is created and guided by parents, educators and community volunteers who support the art and skill of creative problem solving. DI seeks to develop the creativity, innovation and imagination of the students. While working on the challenges, students learn to work as team members, be cooperative, take risks, stay within a budget and meet deadlines. Students are challenged to think divergently — a great skill to have in the work force. The program develops real life skills that help students to succeed in any endeavor. They are taught to dream and then build their dreams into reality.
Destination Imagination has affiliates in 48 states and in 50 nations. Texas is the largest of the 63 global Destination Imagination affiliates. Approximately 18,000 students in Texas participated in Destination Imagination this school year.
The 2013 Texas Destination Imagination state tournament will be held at Cinco Ranch High and Cinco Ranch Junior High in Katy on April 12-13. The team mixer and registration will be held at the Merrell Center.
