During the Sweetwater City Commission meeting on Tuesday morning, January 8, 2013, Coe Construction was awarded the bid for the construction of a new dining room and offices for the SNAP (Senior Nutrition Activities Program) building.
The bids were opened during the December 2012 meeting, but were reviewed in detail leading up to the January meeting. John Voller, the city engineer from Enprotec/Hibbs and Todd, recommended the low bid of Coe Construction--with the base bid of $366,000--and reviewed its two deductions of $48,000 and $100,000.
After discussions with the company and the city, Voller recommended that the best option would be to accept the base bid from Coe Construction. Sweetwater City Manager Eddie Brown noted that the bid is a fair cost, coming out to around $86 to $89 per square foot.
Following the city's recommendation to accept Coe's base bid at $366,000, the commissioners approved the item.
Also approved at the meeting were several appointments to various committees. Jackie Trent, Dorothy Rannefeld and Robert Pieper were approved for reappointment to the Cemetery Board, while also approving Ray Adames to replace Gayle Biggerstaff on the respective board with his term expiring on January 31, 2015.
In addition, approval was given toward the ratification of the appointment by the City Manager of Mark Meneses to serve on the Civil Service commission. His term will expire on January 31, 2016.
The Quarterly Investment Report for the quarter ending on December 31, 2012 was reviewed and approved, along with the minutes of the December 11, 2012 meeting.
Brown also gave a brief City Manager's report, noting that the audit report for the year ending September 30, 2012 is being finalized and will be delivered at the February 12, 2013 meeting. Additionally, the city staff will soon start the process of working on the budget for the next fiscal year.
