Currently a member of the Texas Press Association, West Texas Press Association, and the Texas Daily Newspaper Association, the Sweetwater Reporter was recognized for general excellence in 2010.

The only daily newspaper in Nolan County, the Sweetwater Reporter employs more than 20 people, with about one quarter of the staff making up the news department. Other departments include advertising, composing, distribution, printing and business office.

The newspaper was founded in 1881, the same year that Sweetwater was incorporated as a city. The paper's original name was the Sweetwater Advance. Since that time the newspaper has been published under several names. In 1991, if began daily publication as the Sweetwater Daily Reporter . It has been at the same location, 112 West Third Street since 1923 in the histroic Texas Bank building.
