One extricated at wreck

A commercial motor vehicle accident occurred on Sunday around 7:30 a.m. along Interstate 20 and Highway 84 in Nolan County. The Roscoe Fire Department and Sweetwater Fire Department responded to the scene.

Lions Club to host Homecoming dinner

September 2, 2014

Homecoming is around the corner and Sweetwater High School alumni and members of the community have a chance to visit with old friends and enjoy a good meal during the Homecoming Dinner hosted by the Sweetwater Lions Club. The whole family is invited.
The meal will be served in the high school cafeteria before the game on Friday, Sept. 12 from 5 to 7 p.m.

BNSF Transload Rail Park providing services

Shown is a photo of the BNSF (Burlington Northern Santa Fe) Transload Rail Park. 
The 100+ railcars full of sand equals approximately 350 to 400 semi-trailer loads of sand. The sand is delivered by rail, unloaded into the sand silos and transported by truck to the varied job sites where fracking is used in the drilling process.

Today, September 2nd, "Let's Talk Books," the book club of the County-City Library, will meet at noon in the meeting room. The book selection is "The End of Your Life Book Club" by Will Schwable.
You don't have to read the book to attend the meeting, just come and hear about the book. Sack lunches will be provided for the first 15 people for a $5 donation.
The selection for October will be "The Husband's Secret" by Liane Moriarty.

Volunteer drivers needed at SNAP

For some elderly Sweetwater residents, the hot meal delivered to them by Senior Nutrition Activities Program (SNAP) could be the only meal they eat all day.
More than 160 local senior citizens rely on the meal, which SNAP drivers deliver each weekday without fail — even when the mostly volunteer staff is shorthanded — a problem SNAP director Tonya Challis deals with every week.

Square dance classes to begin in Sweetwater

Starting on Monday, Sept. 8, a new square dancing class will begin.
The class will be held from 7:30-9:30 p.m. at the Jack Lambert Recreation Room, located at 604 Jack Lambert Drive in Sweetwater.

ClearTalk Wireless is hosting an event today from 2-4 p.m. at the Nolan County Plaza. Abilene classic rock radio station 102 The Bear will be live on location and many local businesses have donated gift certificates to be given away at the event. School supplies will also be given away at the event.

NIE program to kick off this Tuesday

The Sweetwater Reporter will kick off its annual Newspaper in Education (NIE) program on Tuesday, Sept. 2, with an increase of area teachers and local business sponsors participating in this year's program.
For the Newspaper in Education (NIE) program, each school district is asked and encouraged to provide pertinent news about their students such as honor rolls, scholastic achievements, extracurricular activities, band accomplishments and sports news. Photos and stories are also featured from students when submitted to the paper.
